The police department speed trailer is used to alert oncoming traffic of their speed, and to make drivers aware they may be driving too fast. Another benefit to the trailer is it records the volume of traffic and the speed of the vehicles as they pass the trailer.
We set the speed trailer up on Strassner Dr, in the 1300-1400 block, Monday Jun 30 – Mon Jul 14. It was monitoring the west bound traffic. During that time it recorded 18, 732 vehicles. The average speed of those cars was 26 mph. The posted speed limit is 25 mph. Ninety-nine of the vehicles were traveling over 35 mph.
Be careful out there.
I am not sure how expensive these are to deploy. But Block 1, 2 and 3 of Rosalie Ave. could use this. The temptation to go a little faster than safety would proscribe is likely due to the width given Rosalie as a Fire Lane. The width of Rosalie from Brentwood to Hanley is approximately the same width as Brentwood Blvd. given 2 lanes in each direction, with a crossover area for avoiding traffic stopping for left turns. Anyway, thanks to the Chief for leaving the City in good, competent hands during his and his family’s well deserved off-time.
