The last several days, family, friends and the law enforcement community honored Officer Blake Snyder of the St Louis County Police Department. We wore our mourning bands. We lowered our flags. We prayed for his family and his Department.
At the service yesterday, hundreds stood at attention, as the funeral procession arrived at the church. The heartache was palpable. Why such a young man? Why another police officer? Why?
We listened to eulogies describe a faith-filled, loving, and caring husband, father, son, and brother. Blake Snyder was a hard working police officer who deeply cared about his job and the community he served. It was said he made a difference in the lives of everyone he touched. Blake brought a joy and a love of others to everything he did. Blake Snyder was truly a man to be admired.
The outpouring of support for Officer Snyder and the law enforcement community along the funeral procession route was amazing. Thousands of people lined the highway, stood on overpasses and outside of businesses. Hands on their hearts, flags held high, respectful salutes and many signs and blue ribbons. And lots of tears. Tears from those that knew Blake Snyder and his family, and tears from those that simply grieve for the loss of another young life, another brave police officer. The fire departments set-up pumpers and ladder trucks on every overpass to wave the massive American flags. The FD’s really came through. Thanks. The Patriot Guard lined the bridge into Alton. True examples of proud Americans honoring a man deserving of honor. Thanks. Words cannot describe how much the law enforcement family appreciates the show of support by everyone yesterday.
Hundreds and hundreds of police officers. All St Louis area departments. Many from agencies in Missouri and Illinois. Several from as far as Aurora, CO, Sioux City, IA, and Fort Worth, TX. All dressed in Class A uniforms. Shoes polished and leather shined. Support for the family; support for the County PD; support for each other. Most of all, we are there to honor Blake Snyder. We salute you Officer Snyder, and everything good you represent.
God Bless you #4153.
