I enjoyed meeting with student leaders at Brentwood High School this morning. We discussed a wide range of topics: perceptions of police by teens (and teens by police), law enforcement bias, how can the police department help young people in our community and issues related to the civil unrest in the area.
I was very impressed, but not surprised, by the thoughtful and respectful way the students communicated with each other. These students are future leaders of our community and have a voice that should be heard. Thanks to Alex Patton for facilitating the meeting, and to Ms. Javier and Dr. Johnson for making it happen.
